Photo Classes

I love to teach! I spent 34 years as a music educator at all levels from elementary to university. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing the light come on in students' eyes when they grasp a concept. I love seeing the excitment that learning can bring, and it, in turn , renews my love of photography.

This year I'll be offering three classes through two different art schools. As in past years, I'll be offering two classes at Arkansas Craft School; April 27-28 and October 19-20. This year I'm looking forward to a new opportunity to teach: Eureka Springs School of the Arts. This class will be Oct. 26-27.

Both classes are designed with beginning photographers in mind, and each will be on Saturday and Sunday, 9-4 each day.  For more information, or to register, visit the websites listed on this page. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to call or email; I would be glad to answer anything

Off The Beaten Path Studio Tour

2019 will mark my 16th year on the Off The Beaten Path Studio Tour! Hard to believe. Even more remarkable to me is the way my work has evolved. Looking back on some of those early images, I winch a bit at what I considered quality work. Granted, I got some good shots (some sell to this day), but they were more luck than skill. Today I feel much more in control, and am able to capture what my imagination sees. My processing is much better, and I can consistently produce high quality prints, both on paper and canvas. Through all the changes, I've remained true to my highest axiom-what you see in the photo is what I saw; no manipulation or "Photoshopping".

Come visit my mountaintop studio Sept 13,14, & 15. I will be open 9-6 on Friday and Saturday, and 10-4 on Sunday. As always, I'll have new work and old favorites on photo paper and canvas.  I will also have copies of my books, including my newest "Mountain Visions" featuring the natural beauty of our area.

Visit the website www.offthebeatenpathstudiotour.com for more information and to find out where to pick up a map.

As many of you know, we have a stunning view from our deck overlooking the White River. You are welcome to come, relax on the deck with coffee or lemonade, view the art, talk photography, hiking, kayaking, backpacking, or mountain bikling.

In addition, my wife will have her garden art works, as well as a new artistic undertaking-silver jewelry.

Private Instruction

I've taken several photography workshops myself, and sometimes, due to class size, I've felt left out, or underwhelmed by the level (or lack thereof) of instruction. Additionally, some of my fellow participants expressed being a bit intimidated when comparing their skills with others in the class.

In my own classes I limit  enrollment to six students, and block out time for individual instruction. Even so, it's hard to fully address each photographer's skill level in a class setting.

The solution? Private instruction. Not only will your specific skill set be addressed, but, unlike classes, date and location are set to accomodate you. In addition, given the amount of time dedicated to you, you will find that the cost may actually be less than a class. You may even find someone of your skill level to share the time with you.

Give me a call or send an e-mail to set up your lesson. You'll learn what YOU need, and have fun along  the way.
